Books reviews

I picked up this book not knowing what to expect from it. Rey Mysterio is one of my favorite wrestlers growing up and as a fellow Chicano reading this book was an easy read because of how relatable Rey's upbringing was to mine. Rey's early years in Mexico and Japan were also interesting reads and I hold this book up on par with Eddie Guerrero, Daniel Bryan and Mick Foley's "Have a Nice Day" books as my favorite pieces of wrestling literature of all time.

A couple weeks ago plans fell through for me and my brother to go to WrestleMania in Phoenix. I responded by buying a load of stuff on the internet, which included the Rey book.

I enjoyed the first half of the book. It was a lot of stuff I never knew about him and his stories of trying to break in in Mexico made it an interesting read.

It peaked, in my opinion, as he spoke of his nerves when he originally went to WCW and found out that his debut match was gonna be against Dean Malenko at the GAB in 1996. From there the book took a turn downwards for me.

Rey jumped around a lot in the book and skimmed over stuff he should've given more time to, in my opinion. It seemed like he debuted in WWE and 35 pages later he was the World Champion, which was 4 years later.

Buy the book if you are a Rey fan. If you are not, still buy it if only for the first half

This book is certainly becoming one of my favorite books, its an incredible story of Rey's life and career. He really comes across as a down to earth guy, who hasnt lost touch of where he came from, and really gives an insight to the Lucha tradition.

His stories of certain wrestlers, like working with Eddy and his time in WCW, are entertaining and very insightful. This book is a wonderful addition to my collection.

Nice price.
From start to finish, an excellent read. I especially enjoyed reading about Rey Misterio, Rey Mysterio's Uncle. Great looks into the hard work and extrodinay triumphs of Mysterio through out his career. Rey doe's not toot his own horn, he tell's it like it is, how it is. One of my favorite wrestling memoirs.
